Page 235 Real Punishment- Gauri Mahalla 4- ਜਬ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥ When he believes others to be bad, ਤਬ ਸਗਲੇ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਫੰਦਾ ॥ then everyone lays traps for him. ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਜਬ ਇਨਹਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥ But when he stops thinking in terms of 'mine' and 'yours', ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥ then no one is angry with him. ||2|| ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ When he clings to 'my own, my own', ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ then he is in deep trouble. ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ But when he recognizes the Creator Lord, ਤਬ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੩॥ then he is free of torment. ||3|| ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹਾ ॥ When he entangles himself in emotional attachment, ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਿ ਜੋਹਾ ॥ he comes and goes in reincarnation, under the constant gaze of Death. ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥ But when all his doubts are removed, ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥੪॥ then there is no difference between him and the Supreme Lord God. ||4|| ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਭੇਦਾ ॥ When he perceives differences, ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥ then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow. ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥ But when he recognizes the One and Only Lord, ਤਬ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੫॥ he understands everything. ||5|| ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਰਥੀ ॥ When he runs around for the sake of Maya and riches, ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਸ ਲਾਥੀ ॥ he is not satisfied, and his desires are not quenched. ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਜਉਲਾ ॥ then the Goddess of Wealth gets up and follows him. ||6|| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥ When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met, ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਲਿਓ ॥ the lamp is lit within the temple of the mind. ਜੀਤ ਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਰੀ ॥ When he realizes what victory and defeat really are, ਤਉ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੭॥ then he comes to appreciate the true value of his own home. ||7|| Page 416 Ego Punishment- Asa Mahalla 1- ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ One who serves the Guru, knows his Lord and Master. ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ His pains are erased, and he realizes the True Word of the Shabad. ||1|| ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਖੈਨੀ ॥ Meditate on the Lord, O my friends and companions. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੈਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Serving the True Guru, you shall behold God with your eyes. ||1||Pause|| ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ People are entangled with mother, father and the world. ਬੰਧਨ ਸੁਤ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ They are entangled with sons, daughters and spouses. ||2|| ਬੰਧਨ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਉ ਕੀਆ ॥ They are entangled with religious rituals, and religious faith, acting in ego. ਬੰਧਨ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਆ ॥੩॥ They are entangled with sons, wives and others in their minds. ||3|| ਬੰਧਨ ਕਿਰਖੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਰਸਾਨ ॥ The farmers are entangled by farming. ਹਉਮੈ ਡੰਨੁ ਸਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨ ॥੪॥ People suffer punishment in ego, and the Lord King exacts the penalty from them. ||4|| ਬੰਧਨ ਸਉਦਾ ਅਣਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ They are entangled in trade without contemplation. ਤਿਪਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥੫॥ They are not satisfied by attachment to the expanse of Maya. ||5|| ਬੰਧਨ ਸਾਹ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ They are entangled with that wealth, amassed by bankers. ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਪਵਈ ਥਾਇ ॥੬॥ Without devotion to the Lord, they do not become acceptable. ||6|| ਬੰਧਨ ਬੇਦੁ ਬਾਦੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥ They are entangled with the Vedas, religious discussions and egotism. ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੭॥ They are entangled, and perish in attachment and corruption. ||7|| ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Name. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੧੦॥ One who is saved by the True Guru, does not suffer entanglement. ||8||10|| Page 1020 Rebirth Punishment- Maroo Mahalla 5- ਜਮਿ ਜਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ॥ You shall be born and born again, and die and die again, only to be reincarnated again. ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਜਾਇ ਪਇਆ ਦੇਸਿ ਲੰਮੈ ॥ You shall suffer terrible punishment, on your way to the land beyond. ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹੈ ਪਰਾਣੀਆ ॥੫॥ The mortal does not know the One who created him; he is blind, and so he shall suffer. ||5|| Page 1262 Rebirth Punishment- Malaar Mahalla 3- ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ Attachment to Maya leads to the darkness of ignorance. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ The self-willed manukhs are attached, foolish and ignorant. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥ Night and day, their lives pass away in worldly entanglements. ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ They die and die again and again, only to be reborn and receive their punishment. ||2||
